Watch Us Grow!
Feeding Medina County in partnership with Medina Tractor Sales, Williams on the Lake, OSU Extension, Medina County Juvenile Court, Melissa Krebs, Rick Malone DesignScapes, HG Expo, SBE Marketing, Medina County Board of Commissioners, Ron Maitland-FMC Community Garden Coordinator, and Next Step came together with volunteers to plant the new Community Garden located at 901 Lafayette Rd., Medina, OH, on Saturday, May 18, 2013. Chick Masters, Medina Plating and the county lease the land to Feeding Medina County.
All the harvested fruits and vegetables will be used to feed the hungry in Medina County. The food will be used to source Feeding Medina County’s Free Fresh Produce Outreach Distribution program. The Community Garden will also allow Feeding Medina County to ensure the seniors using the Staples for Seniors program have fresh fruits and vegetables in their monthly provisions.
Teens assigned to community service by Medina County Juvenile Court along with local gardeners and volunteers will work the garden from planting until harvest. The teens will learn the life-important skill of gardening. Mark Williams of Williams on the Lake has committed to teaching the youth cooking skills from some of the harvested fruits and vegetables.
The Community Garden has plots available for sponsorship. For more information on sponsoring a plot please email info@feedingmedinacounty.org or call (330) 421-4816. Click here for a sponsor packet.
